Scriptural Baptism

Scriptural Baptism

Chapter 12 – 30 Minutes

THE GREAT COMMISSION
Five different accounts of commission, but No conflicts.
[Mat 28:19-20] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.
[Mar 16:15-16] And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
[Luk 24:46-48] And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
[Jhn 20:21] Then said Jesus to them again, Peace [be] unto you: as [My] Father hath sent Me, even so send I you.
[Act 1:7-8] And He said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in His own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Two words sum up: Church was told to “Go” in Great Commission and share the
invitation of the Lord to “Come”, it is the Great Invitation

THE TWO ORDINANCES AUTHORIZED IN THE COMMISSION
Three passages set forth that there are two ordinances embraced in commission.
1. Matt 28:19-20 given above. Here we have both baptism and Lord’s Supper
2. [Luk 22:29-30] And I appoint unto you a Kingdom, as My Father hath appointed unto Me; 30 That ye may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Here is the Lord’s Supper
3. [Act 2:41-42] Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added [unto them] about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. Both ordinances addressed in these scriptures.
--These ordinances are to be protected and kept safe lest we let them slip.
--Multitudes have let their ordinances slip away and Now only go through motions

SCRIPTURAL BAPTISM
Five elements required in order to have scriptural baptism
1. A scriptural subject: One who has been born again. The correct order is: Soul Salvation first then baptism to have Church membership: John 4:1-2
2. Scriptural authority: The Authority to baptize rests with the Godhead. God sent John the Baptist to baptize, John 1:33. John baptized all the  first Church members as well as the head of the Church, Jesus Christ, Acts 1:21-22. The Lord Jesus Christ baptized through His Church while on the earth, John 4:1-2. He continues to do so from heaven now through His Church which He put in motion when He gave His Church the Great Commission. Only His Church in this day, linking back to Jerusalem, has authority to baptize today.
3. A scriptural design or Motive: Meaning, that which prompts, urges, or causes one to be baptized. Not to be saved, but being prompted by a love for God and a desire to do what Gad has commanded His children to do, see 1 Peter 3:21.
4. A scriptural administrator: No one but an ordained minister, meeting the qualifications of 1 Tim 3 and Tit 1, of a Baptist Church can administrator the ordinance. This administrator must be authorized by the Church to do so.
5. A scriptural place: This includes the Mode, which is immersion. The place must have enough water to have a burial in water. The pattern in the Bible is the administrator and the subject entered the water together where the ordinance was administered.
Additional Facts about Baptism
-There are ten of these facts listed in the book but one will be addressed here
-Baptism declares a good conscience towards God: [1Pe 3:21] The like figure whereunto [even] baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
-”Not the putting away of the filth of the flesh” that is to say, “Not the forgivness of sins” or “Not in order to be saved” “BUT the answer of a good conscience”
ALIEN IMMERSION
-Alien Immersion is immersion administered by any church, or group of people other than the true Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.
-Alien Immersion is NOT accepted by any scriptural Baptist Church.
-True Baptists allow NO other group to do their baptizing for them, neither do they administer baptism for any other group.
