The Virgin Birth and Origin of Denominations

The Virgin Birth and Origin of Denominations

Chapters 10 and 11 – 30 Minutes

NECESSITY OF THE VIRGIN BIRTH
1. To Fulfill Prophecy
Born the seed of the woman promised
[Gen 3:15] And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her Seed; It shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel.
[Isa 7:14] Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
[Mat 1:22-23] Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Born the seed of Abraham promised
[Gen 17:7] And I will establish My covenant between Me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
[Gal 3:16] Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy Seed, which is Christ.
2. Born of a Virgin that He may be entitled to the Throne of David
- Jer 22:28-30 barred any descendant of Jeconiah from sitting on Throne of David
- Matt 1:16 explains Joseph was last heir with rights, husband of Mary
- This positions the Lord as “Uios” with the legal right of sonship to the throne
- Luke 2:4 points out this legal lineage of Joseph to throne of David
*If the Lord was the natural seed of Joseph, we would NOT have been born of a
virgin
**If he was the natural seed of Joseph, he would have been barred from the throne
of David by the proclamation made by Jeremiah.
- It is only by means of the virgin birth that the proclamations can be met.
3. The Problem of the Two Genealogies
- Matthew gives the genealogy of Joseph, Matt 1:16 “Jacob begat Joseph”
- Luke gives the genealogy of Mary, Luke 3:23, “Joseph the son of Heli” which places Joseph as the Son-in-law of Heli, Mary’s dad.
4. The Last Adam
[1Co 15:45-47] And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam [was made] a quickening spirit. 46 Howbeit that [was] not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
47 The first man [is] of the earth, earthy: the second man [is] the Lord from heaven.
[Rom 8:3] For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
[Gal 4:4-5] But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
[Heb 2:9] But we see Jesus, Who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
Three things are established by these scriptures:
1. Christ was God the Son from eternity, and apart from His virgin birth
2. He was truly a man Not descending by natural generation from Adam;
therefore, not partaking of our sinful nature.
3. He must have these qualities in order to be the substitute who could save us
