“Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time” (1John.2:18). A Bible companion, Noah Webster, clarifies that “anti” is a preposition signifying “against” and “contrary to”, but also “in place of.” Consequently some have labeled all 266 Roman Catholic popes listed in the Annuario Pontificio, “Antichrists.” I'll not contend that, they did preach “another gospel” (Gal.1:8-9), change every Bible “elder” to a Roman priest, every Bible “repent” to a catholic “do penance” and call their Father-Origen, “Father” of their allegorical method, and “Father” of their Bible criticism (Matt.23:9); “apostate” is a correct label. But God and the Apostle John clarify that there are many more antichrists, and what makes them that, “Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son”(vr.22). Without doubt that makes Joseph Smith (1805-1844), founder of LDS's, and Charles Taze Russell (1852-1916) founder of the Jehovah False Witnesses, antichrists. Both brazenly denied the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ; their followers do as well, but pretend to be “Christian” as they attempt to “blend in.” The Bible richly clarifies for us in this warning that “ye (little children who know the truth and no lie is of the truth) have an unction (<5545> twice called “the anointing” once “an unction”) from the Holy One, and ye know all things” (vr.20,21). What a blessing that a born-again, blood bought, I've been redeemed, believer is indwelt with a “Counselor on Board”, Comforter, who keeps us from entangling our selves in cults and isms. How sad that we have so many kin, friends, and neighbors who are “made manifest” (vr.19), by such entanglements.
