“He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked” (1Jhn.2:6). In this little epistle to “my little children”, John repeatedly emphasizes that “talk is cheap” and belief paramount. “If we say we have fellowship,(1:6) … if we say we have no sin,(1:8,10) …he that saith I know him,(2:4) …he that saith he abideth,(2:6) …he that saith he is in the light,(2:9). …” John gives genuine cause to examine ourselves, and our neighbor, and now, in one verse gives cause to reread John 15! “He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit” (Jn.15:5).

Sheldon's hundred year old book “In His Steps” touches an aspect of God's two-thousand year old direction of how a believer ought to walk. Jesus said, “He that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. … Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross (daily), and follow me. … Come, take up the cross, and follow me. … Whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple” (Mt.10:38,16:24&Mrk.8:34,10:21&Luk.9:23, Luk.14:27).

The Apostle Paul put it, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. …They that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. …I should glory,… in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.” (Gal.2:20,5:24,6:14).

The year 2024 will not be a “cake-walk”, it needs to be a Jesus-walk.
