In a Sunday School hour Evangelist Fielder expounded Psalms-One with insights fitting for our day and mined from a half-century of Bible meditation. “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the council of the ungodly…” Psalm-One is characteristic of the entire book, where “blessed” is found forty-nine times and means “happy and prosperous.” This opening Psalm confirms that God blesses righteousness, and God judges unrighteousness. It is so throughout the Psalms, it is so throughout the Bible. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD” (Ps.33:12). In every instance, in Third-World countries, the LORD is not their God. The Spaniards came to South America seeking gold; the Pilgrims came to North America seeking God. South America has far more resources, and yet God blessed America. In fact, God so blessed America that 6,000 years of human history has been greatly changed by this one nation under God. “Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust” (Ps.40:4). But yet, “God is angry with the wicked every day” (Ps.7:11). “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God” (Ps.9:17). “The fool has said in his heart, There is no God” (Ps.14:1, 53:1). Atheist do have a holiday, … It is April 1^st. “Many sorrows shall be to the wicked, but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about” (Ps.32:10). “The soul of the transgressors shall eat violence” (Prov.13:2). “Fools make a mock of sin: but among the righteous there is favor” (Prov.14:9). The four leading causes of death are largely self inflicted by sin (AIDS, lung-cancer, liver-psoriasis, et al)! The outline of this Psalm is, as I said, God blesses the righteous, and God judges the unrighteous. Look again at the great detail of that in these six verses. ...
