Brookside Missionary Baptist Church, HYDER ALASKA

Brookside Missionary Baptist Church, HYDER ALASKA

Seeking a Pastor.

Their Pastor has taken ill and moved back to Texas. This work was started back in 1977.
Brookside is in the southeast panhandle of Alaska. It borders Stewart, British Columbia, Canada. Hyder is known as the “Friendliest Ghost Town in Alaska.” The church runs about 9-12 people in the winter months and more during the tourist season. It is 90 air miles from Ketchikan, Alaska. Travel to Ketchikan is on an island and can be reached by float plane or Canadian ferry which can be boarded in Prince Rupert, BC (3 hours by car from Hyder),
Back in the days she was established, the church ran 70 plus people till 1987. Many of the members were Canadian. When the copper mine closed down many of the miners (Canadians) went elsewhere to find work. Today the church has both Canadians and Americans members. This is a good core of folks, who love the Lord and are faithful and hard workers.
Hyder, AK is the first Alaskan village that can be reached by car. It is 900 + miles from Bellingham, Washington. Bellingham is also where the Alaskan ferries begin.
The Pastor would need to be a missionary on some type of support, or someone who has other income. The state of Alaska pays each of it’s citizens $1200 yearly from the Alaskan pipeline. Every member of the family gets that amount. So if you and your wife have 5 children your dividend check would be $8400.00 paid sometime in October. There is a parsonage but it is need of some repair.
Those who desire this position must have a missionary spirit, and a Pastor’s heart. He must teach and preach from the King James Bible. This is the wilderness. But it is a mission field ripe unto harvest. Hyder averages 30 feet of snow a year. The daylight hours in the winter are about 4 hours. The nighttime hours in the summer are just the opposite.
There is trapping (all kinds of varmints, beaver, wolf, etc.), and fishing (5 types of salmon, trout, halibut), shrimp and crabs, (and men-Matthew 4:19); and hunting (mountain goat & water fowl, black bear), and there are plenty of grizzlies.
Please pray for this need. Contact: Don Hagen at [email protected]. Or 717-419-5777. Please send a text first so I know who is calling. God bless.
