Valentine's Day is for celebration of love and marriage. Humans marry properly for three reasons, to give and receive Love, Significance, and Security. God ordained the role of the husband and wife to provide joy and contentment in life. The intimate relationships in marriage are mirrored and paralleled in our relationship to God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We should be ever learning about each relationship.

God loves us. “Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee” (Jer.31:3). “For God so loved the world, that he gave … ” (John 3:16).”Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son ... We love him, because he first loved us” (1Jo.4:10,19). We are to love him. “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment” (Mr.12:30).

We are significant to God. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, … ” (Jer. 29:11). “Many, O LORD my God, are … thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up … they are more than can be numbered” (Ps.40:5). “For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings. … the LORD pondereth the hearts.” (Pr.5:21, 21:2). So we should be significant to our “significant-other”. “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. ..25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church” (Eph 5:22,25).

We are secure in God. “... He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Heb.13:5, cf Jn.14:3,Ps.37:25,Lu.12:24). Review and renew those promises this Valentine's Day.
