“When he was come into his own country... they were offended in him” (Matt 13:54a,57a). At the close of seven parables, wherein mysteries of the kingdom of heaven are likened to … things, it is revealed that Jesus knew some things about family rejection. I could sooner talk to a stranger on the street than rehearse the gospel truths to a lost family member, already offended by my preaching. Practice, therefore, Jesus' methods on family and familiar ones who need the gospel. From verse 54 teach them, astonish them, tell where wisdom comes from, and do mighty works. You are trying to change their “soil-type” (13:3-9), you will need Bible knowledge to astonish, wisdom at its source, and knowledge that, “Your talk talks, and your walk talks, but your walk talks louder than your talk talks.” From verse 55 they know where you come from, use that to advantage. Jesus was not “just one of them”, but you are, exercise that familiarity.

In verse 56 they asked, “Whence then hath this man these things?” Quote King James scripture. Don't use a mamsy-pamsy dummied down modernist ecumenical version. The real thing is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword! Keep your sword sharp. Lastly, they will be offended in you. At the right time call in a Godly, gospel preaching pastor and ask him to visit your loved one with you, or ask God to send one of His by their house. After thirteen years of our witness, a Godly Baptist pastor, who he “just happened to meet”, lead my father in law to the Lord, in a cow pasture, next to a 1^st prize Angus cow, while he was vacationing in Texas! My wife would excitedly tell you that whole account. Above all pray, pray, and pray.
