“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord”(Col.3:16 ). Like many 3:16s in the Bible, this one is a crescendoed truth of special importance. The crescendo starts with our death burial and resurrection in Christ, vr.1-4; our mortifying things of the flesh, vr.5-9; our putting on the new man whereby old things are passed away, and the fruits of the Spirit take over, vr.10-14; then comes the overwhelming peace of God, vr.15; and the grand climax coming in 3:16, a whole new song in our heart and life. Christian-Church-Worship music is under attack today; Biblically it should always: 1) Glorify God not man, not flesh, not the world, not man's old nature, not carnality; 2) it should always move our thoughts towards God, focus our attention on his glory, bless his name, sing his worth; 3) it should always demonstrate that I am a new creature in Christ, that old things are passed away, i.e. that my music now consists of psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Christian-Church-Worship music 4) cannot contain an ounce of worldliness; a reading of Haggai.2:11-13 insists that there is no such thing as “Christian-Rock” music. Clean never sanctifies unclean; unclean always defiles the clean.

The Psalmist records 61 verses that speak of singing, singers, or, to sing. A ten minute read through of that list will edify, and teach that 1) All Christians are singers, ... or slackers; 2) Our music is not designed to attract or please the world, 3) Those previous four observations are Bible truths.
