Ocean creatures never before seen by mankind? That live 35,000+ feet below the surface of the sea? In total darkness? Where the weight of the water alone (the sheer pressure) would crush any human in a few seconds? Little fish with no eyes! Why would they need any, existing in an environment where not a […]

"Thou shalt arise and have mercy upon Zion, for the time to favor her, yea, the set time is come. For Thy servants take pleasure in her stones and favor the dust thereof. So the heathen shall fear the name of the Lord and all of the kings of the earth Thy glory. When the Lord shall build up Zion, He shall appear in His glory." Psalm 102:13-16People sometimes ask me, “Pastor, why do you keep going back to the land of Israel?” Because I love the land and I love her people. They are God's chosen people, a people of destiny. I go to Israel for two reasons. One, I love her past. I love to look back and see the land where my Savior lived and walked and talked. I love to study the Bible on location. It causes the Bible to burst aflame in your hands. Two, I want help in understanding the present and the future, because there is Bible prophecy yet to be fulfilled. Keep your eyes on Zion, God's holy land. As the Jew goes, so goes the world. The Jews are God's yardstick, God's outline, God's blueprint, for what He's up to in the rest of the world. The land of Israel, I believe, is the most important spot on earth. The most important city is not Washington or Moscow, but Jerusalem. The most important land, believe it or not, is not America but tiny Israel, about the size of New Jersey.Photo courtesy: ©GettyImages/silverjohn
While necessary right now and important in the future, we can't close our eyes to the downsides of online church. It’s a whole new ballgame. In a matter of just a few weeks, churches all around the world have a new standard for measuring ministry success. And I’m trying not to be cynical about it.So here’s my best shot at a non-cynical (but certainly skeptical) take on this. What’s Good About Online ChurchI’m grateful every time I hear that a church now has as many or more people watching their online services than they had attending their in-person services.Better that than a drop-off of numbers, for sure. But let’s be honest about what’s happening here.Recently, there’s been a lot of helpful information about how engagement is a better metric than attendance. I fully agree with that assessment. But if engagement is a better metric than attendance, eyeballs on a screen is a worse one. At-home viewers are far less engaged than bodies in the room ever were.Online And DistractedWe all know how online viewing goes.We watch while we’re cooking, eating, chatting, Tweeting and working out.Even if we lay all of that aside, people who sit at home and watch a screen are far less engaged in the experience than when they were in the room together. An Incomplete MetricObviously, that’s all we have right now. And I’m truly grateful we have it.Even when we’re able to meet together again, keeping an online presence will be an important way to reach new people and keep connected with absent members.But.Let’s be careful not to replace one incomplete, even unreliable metric (attendance) with one that’s even less reliable (online viewership).Online church is here to stay. Our congregation does it, and we’ve learned how to do it even better because of the necessity of this ...Continue reading...
Recientemente, tuve el honor de participar en una gira de conferencias por La Serena, Santiago, y Chillán en Chile con el Dr. Stuart Burgess.
Today, Rich went to be with our Saviour.  As his eyes, closed here they opened in Heaven.  The Bible says, “…to be absent from the body…[is] to be present with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:8)  So, he woke up in Heaven today.  But as I sit here at the end of the day here, I know his [...]

FBCS Children keep their eyes on their music teacher Sis. Lahlah Santos as they sing a lively special “Zip Your Lip”. They always do such a beautiful job! [...]
I know sports tend to be all about the money and we find athletes who don't really love the game, but last night I watched two teams who love to play the game of football. The Florida Gators came out the champ, and I especially noticed the comments made about Florida QB Tim Tebow. It was said that he had gone on several church mission trips. I also noticed that under his eyes, the word "John 3:16" was written. It was nice to watch an athlete such as Tebow who actually loves the game and does not distract us by the 20 tatoos and piercings on his body. I wish Mr. Tebow the best, and hope to see him playing on Sunday (in a Bears uniform) in the years to come.
