Msg#2529a The Mystery Godliness
What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: 1) God was manifest in the flesh, 2) justified in the Spirit, 3) seen of angels (messengers), 4) preached unto the Gentiles, (Praise the Lord!) 5) believed on in the world, 6) received up into glory” (1Tim.3:16). The mystery of godliness, like the other eleven mysteries the Bible calls out, “hath been hid from ages (dispensations) and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints”(Col.1:26). This revelation of “the process by which godliness is restored to man” was not fully known to Abraham, who offered his only begotten son, Isaac, on the very mount where God would offer his only begotten Son, “And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen” (Gen.22:14). This mystery of godliness was not fully known to Moses, to whom “the LORD spake … face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend” (Exod.33:11a), and to whom was given all the Levitical law portraying Christ’s sacrifice. The mystery of godliness was not fully known to Job who sought for the daysman betwixt God and man, a daysman “that might lay his hand upon us both. … a man, as I am, that I should answer (God), and we should come together in judgment” (Job.9:32-33). It was not fully known to David, a man after God’s own heart (1Sam.13:14, Acts.13:22); nor to Daniel who was greatly beloved, and shown visions of things to come (Dan.9:23). Jesus said, “For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them” (Mt.13:17). Consequently It’s well worth our study of this mystery of godliness.
