Taken as a slave to Ireland from his native Britain as a lad of sixteen, he was made to tend the flocks of his pagan Irish master on the rugged mountain of Slemish.
Amidst the solitude of his captivity, he was gloriously converted – calling upon the Lord. Providently, he later was enabled to escape his slavery and find his way home to be with his family in Britain again.
The Lord called him, however, to go back to Ireland with the message of salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus. This he did faithfully and today he is known around the world as the man who brought the Gospel to Ireland.
But let us hear from the great missionary himself:
“I, PATRICK, A SINNER”
These are the words he used to commence his letter which he refers to as: “This is my confession before I die.” He understood the scriptures: All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God,” Romans 3:23.
“I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me,” Psalm 51:5.
BUT HE WAS CONVERTED
“The Lord opened the sense of my unbelief that I might remember my sins and
be converted with all my heart to the Lord my God.”
“Hence I cannot be silent about the great benefits and the great Grace which
the Lord has deigned to bestow upon me.”
“I was like a stone lying in the deep mire; and He that is Mighty came and
in His Mercy lifted me up.”
“Hence I cannot be silent – because there is no other God, nor ever was, nor will be, than God the Father unbegotten, without beginning, from whom is all beginning, the Lord of the universe, as we have been taught; and His Son, Jesus Christ, whom we declare to have always been with the Father – by Him are made all things, visible and invisible. He was made man and, having defeated death, was received into Heaven by the Father; and He hath given Him all power over all names in heaven, on earth and under the earth and every tongue shall confess to Him that Jesus Christ is Lord and God, in whom we believe, and whose advent we expect soon to be Judge of the living and the dead.”
Here are some differences in the Roman Catholic Church and the man they made a saint
1. The Roman Catholic Church says baptizing babies takes away “original sin” and makes them “children of God and heirs of Heaven.”
ANSWER: St. Patrick spoke in his writings of baptizing thousands of grown men, not babies.
2. The Roman Catholic Church prays to “saints”, has vows of celibacy, believes in the adoration of and praying to Mary and that the Lord’s supper is a “transubstantiation” in a sacrifice.
ANSWER: There is no evidence that St. Patrick believed in any of the above.
3. The Roman Catholic Church believes authority comes from their bible and tradition as interpreted by their church.
ANSWER: St. Patrick believed the scriptures was the only and final authority in matters of faith and practice and never appealed to a Bishop, council, Pope, or King, for any religious advice regarding any spiritual issue.
4. The Bible the Roman Catholic Church uses comes from a different line of manuscripts than that of the King James Bible.
ANSWER: The Bible that St. Patrick and his converts used was the “Old Latin” and was in line with the King James Bible. The Roman Catholic, Alexandrian type manuscripts are the same that are used for all the “new translations”
The Roman Catholic Church “canonized” popular or important people years after their death, (St. Patrick for example) as an effective and powerful means of controlling or keeping a group of nations under Roman Catholic control.
THE BIBLE SAYS THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO HEAVEN
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6) (Not your church).
NOTHING ELSE CAN HELP YOU.
“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
(I Timothy 2:5)
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
WHAT YOU MUST DO:
PRAY THIS COMMITMENT TO GOD:
Lord, I now see according to the Bible that I am not saved by being a Roman Catholic.
I reject that system of dogmas and sacraments and place my trust in Jesus Christ
alone for my salvation. I have sinned against you, God. Please forgive me in
Jesus name. I accept Christ’s sacrifice as perfect and complete.
Thank you for the full assurance of eternal life in heaven.
If you fail to be saved before you die, Jesus Christ will say to you one day,
“Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire,” Matthew 25:41.
