Msg#2514 Protect Your Head
What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
“And take the helmet of salvation” (Eph.6:17). The 5th and last piece of armor donned by the saint in Paul’s Roman Armor illustration is head protection. Salvation itself was first donned with gospel truth and Christ’s righteousness; donning the helmet of salvation here represents two functions of a helmet, in the fray of battle the Roman helmet was for head protection, but also for identification. Salvation protects your mind. Sometimes doubts assail, but a Christian needs to know that they know that they are saved. “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, … ” (1Jhn.5:13). Peter charges us to Know, to Grow, then to Go and Show (1Pet.1:18,2:2,21). And Romans charges that when we pillow our head at night we should know that we know; “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. … The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God” (Rom.8:14,16). It is also in our head where, in the renewing of the mind, there is the transformation that prevents conformation to the world (Rom.12:2). And, it’s in the head, where “ in lowliness of mind (we) each esteem other better than themselves” and we “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” (Phip.2:3,5). Genuine salvation protects your head, but it also identifies you as a saint. A genuine born-again believer stands out from those supposing infant baptism or confirmation or church membership got them ‘saved’. They stand out from Latter Day Saints, and Jehovah false witnesses who deny the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ. So, take the helmet of salvation, protect your head, where it boldly.
