Zechariah reports, “Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy. And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease” (Zech.1:14-15). This sounds like a headline for the TimesOfIsrael.com today, and it goes on to say, “I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts” (1:16). God did that in 520BC after Nebuchadnezzar had leveled Jerusalem, and he will do it again after Rome’s 70AD destruction of her. Zechariah sees the “man with a measuring line in his hand” (2:1,cf 1:16), and hears, “Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD” (2:10). Zechariah continues, “And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him” (3:1-2). Israel’s high priest rejected their Messiah at his first-advent, Satan was “at his right hand”, and “he was clothed with filthy garments.” But for Christ’s second advent it says, “Take away the filthy garments from him. … Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment” (3:4). It goes on, “Hear now, O Joshua (Jehovah is Salvation) the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: … for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH” (3:8). This BRANCH is herein called “one stone with seven eyes” and “the stone that I have laid” (3:9), depicting Isaiah 11’s BRANCH and the “corner stone” being a “stumblingstone” (Isa.28:16, 8:14-15, Rom.10:31-33). This is marvelous Biblical prophecy; he is coming back as King of kings, and will save Israel (Rev.19,Rom.11:26).
