Msg #24028 To Garner Saving Faith

What The Bible Says

Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice

He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (1Joh.5:12-13). The most important thing to know in a sojourn here on God’s green earth, is that everything’s alright between me and my Creator. That knowledge is on a spiritual plane which transcends the physical, but after the fall of man, humans, by their nature, don’t spend much time on that plane. The only access is by faith; faith is the noun for the verb believe, and it comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Rom.10:17). To garner saving faith, one must believe the word of God, the Holy Bible. The Apostle John writes this little epistle highlighting the integral purpose in his Gospel “These (signs) are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name” (John.20:31). Three things, then, flow out of these two verses, first, “Without faith it is impossible to please him: … faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Heb.11:6, Rom.10:17). Second, a journey to faith begins with an open Bible. Get your neighbor one. Most people do not have a Bible, more have never read one. Third, don’t dummy down salvation to, “Say you’re sorry for your sins.” Look at our text, and know what salvation is. This text also teaches us to add to our faith; it’s appalling how many “Christians” don’t read their Bible. Just do it and grow your faith.
