Msg#2528 Christ In You, You In Christ
What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
Paul writes to the Colossians, “Christ made peace through the blood of his cross… To reconcile all things unto himself… and you (Gentiles)… hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death… Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you to fulfill the word of God; Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints… Which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Col.1: 20–22, 25–27).
C.I.Schofield lists this as a sixth mystery (cf Matt.13:11 Note) and a seventh follows; “Hearts being knit together in love… to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge… For in (Christ) dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (Col.2:2–3, 9–10). Now-a-days Christians don’t ponder enough. Ponder this, Christ is in you, and you are in Christ, and in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily! You, Christian, have a Counselor on board!
Consider how Jesus himself put it in the Lord’s Prayer, “That they (which shall believe on me.) all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: … And the glory, which thou gavest me, I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one: and that the world may know that thou has sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me” (Jhn.17:20-23). All of that is so near the edge of inconceivable, that it is well worth pondering. Praise his holy name.
