Msg#2524 Mysteries Revealed
What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
The 13th chapter of Matthew’s Gospel opens a virtual chest filled with things that were previously hidden; “For verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men have desired to see these things which ye see, and have not seen them” (Matt.13:17). The Old Testament prophets saw in one blended vision the rejection and crucifixion of their King, and also “the glory that should follow”, wherein Christ should rule and reign as King forever.” This intermediate age of Grace that we live in, contains the “so great salvation which at the first began to be spoken of by the Lord, … Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you … which things the Angels desire to look into!” (Heb.2:3,1Pet.1:10-12).
These hidden things that are now revealed require us, as believers, to gird up the loins of our mind, as Peter says, and study the seven mystery-revealing parables of Matthew 13; “Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them (the unsaved) it is not given ” (Matt.13:10).
This first parable out of the virtual chest of mysteries gives tremendous insight to this age of Grace we live in. It is left as an exercise of the sincere student to read the parable in Matt.13:1-9, and Jesus’ explanation of it in 13:18-23. Then grasp these four basic tenants; 1) this fits into the time frame between the 1st Advent and 2nd Advent of Christ; 2) there are more who reject the word of the Kingdom than receive it (cf.Matt.7:13-14); 3) receptors always bear fruit and reception is holy voluntary, “whosoever will may come”; and 4) this period will come to a close. Today is the day of salvation.
