Msg#2515 Palm Sunday, Passover, Easter Sunday
What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
Sunday April 13th 2025 is Passover. It starts Saturday evening because God counted his creation days as “the evening and the morning.” The very predictable first new moon after the solar equinox, starts the Hebrew month of Abib, and the 14th day of that month is the Hebrew Passover. The 15th is a Sabbath Day no matter what day of the week it falls on. The Apostle John clarifies it, “The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away” (Jhn.19:31).
Our Lord Jesus Christ is our Passover Lamb, he was crucified on Passover 1,995 years ago, it was on the 14th of Abib. The day after was a Sabbath, and the Saturday after that was a 7th Day Sabbath. The Sunday following Passover was Resurrection Day. Believers have celebrated the Sunday after Passover as Resurrection Day for 1,995 years now. It is on April 20th this year, that is the Sunday after Passover 2025.
Sunday, April 13th 2025 is also Palm-Sunday, where Christians celebrate the Sunday that the crowds received Jesus into Jerusalem with cries of “Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.” That happened on the 10th of Abib, when the Passover lamb was separated from the flock (Exod.12:2-3). Christians should carefully commemorate what our Lord Jesus Christ did for us; “how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; … For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (1Cor.15:3-4,2Cor.5:21).
