Msg#2505 Naked and Not Ashamed
What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
The last thing said about the couple in the genesis of marriage is, “And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed” (Gen.2:25), and the first thing said about them in sin is, “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked” (Gen.3:7). Only selfless love can bring man and wife back to the state of innocence where their home is a taste of paradise on earth. This “naked and not ashamed” is bigger than a body thing; it is a soul thing, naked and not ashamed in emotion, in thinking, in feeling, in expression, in intimate communications; it is a spirit thing, naked and not ashamed in the very presence of Jehovah God, where “The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly” and “the things of the Spirit of God … they are spiritually discerned” (Prov.20:27,1Cor.2:14). A marriage getting back to the state of God’s paradise, has obstacles. First, a participant needs to have a spiritual life. The only recovery of being dead in trespasses and sins, is to be born-again-saved i.e. quickened – made alive spiritually. “For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved” (John3:16-18). Next, know how bad we are infected, “GOD saw … that every imagination of the thoughts of (man’s) heart was only evil continually” (Gen.6:5). Now, let Christ change your selfishness; believers “should not henceforth live unto themselves, … if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature” (2Cor.5:15,17). Humans are self-conscious, enabling them to answer my mom’s toughest question, “What in the world were you thinking?” Explore that with your Valentine this week. Happy Valentine’s Day.
