Zechariah the prophet provided God’s exhortations to Israel as they came out of the Babylonian captivity. The two themes are “I am very sore displeased with the heathen” (Zech1:15), “And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong” (8:13). Ten visions in six chapters outline an “it shall come to pass” extending to our day. There appear four horns (1:18) which are “the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem” (1:19). The horn depicts a king, and Daniel 7 depicts the four world empires, “The first was like a lion (Babylon) … a second, like a bear (Persia) … lo another, like a leopard (Grecian) … and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, (Roman World Empire) (Dan.7:4-7). The same four are depicted in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream in Daniel 2. Another study might ensue looking at the fourth beast’s “ten horns” and “the little horn … speaking great things”, but here attentions turns, “The LORD shewed me four carpenters … These are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles” (Zech.1:20-21). The Persians frayed the Babylonians, Alexander the Great frayed the Persians, the Romans frayed the Grecian world empire, and … wait for it, … “a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold … Is not this the Carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary?”(Dan.2:45, Mt.13:55). In his time Jehovah God will deal with “The New-World-Order”, “The ungodly are like the chaff …”, in our time we need to “preach the Gospel to every creature.”
