West Jacksonville Baptist Church is seeking a Minister of Music. We are in Jacksonville, Florida. We are an unaffiliated Baptist Church, independent in our existence, fundamental Biblically, and Baptist doctrinally. We are conservative, but not mad about it.
This is a GREAT ministry opportunity to work with some of the best people. When I say we have a great choir, I may be prejudiced, but if you would like references, you may ask Dr. David Gibbs, Jr, Steve Kluth, Brian McBride, Scott Matthews, Bobby Bonner, Steve Hurst, Adam Borden, Ben Rochester, Wesley Morrison, John W. Collier, Paul Bunke, John Sawyer, Jon Williams, Mike Reid, Jon Williams, and a lot more I did not mention.
Tommy Young served with us for 25 years. As of now, I get to be the Pastor and the Minister of Music. That proves our choir is patient.
Some of the qualifications:
1. Must have doctrinal and philosophical agreement
(A couple of truths: We only use the KJB and are not Reformed/Calvinist)
2. Must have experience leading a choir and a congregation
3. Must have sufficient music theory/directing experience
4. Must be teachable and possess a spirit of unity
5. Must have a good work ethic
A call and desire for full-time ministry are crucial. If a formal interview is conducted and mutual interests are apparent, all of this and more will be discussed, along with compensation and benefits. We have a strong music program with no intentions of letting up. We have a great and faithful choir and music ministry.
EDIT: I realize people have different styles and opinions. So, this should be said: Our style is not what I call ultra-conservative (it may be in some's opinion), nor are we progressive. We are hymns/Southern Gospel. The music has been affected by me and Tommy Young over the years. We are not shifting to the left. I am musical and have no issue communicating. Some may say we are unwilling to change... that is not true. We've changed over the years in some ways, but we are not looking to bring someone in to change us. We are looking to bring someone in who fits us. Yes, we want to grow. Yes, there are some boundaries.
