James Downs and his family are independent Baptist church planters currently ministering in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Their mission includes:
-
Evangelizing Ethiopians: Targeting approximately 200,000 Ethiopians residing in the D.C. area.
-
Broader Outreach: Reaching the wider population of over 6 million people in the metroplex
-
Leadership Training: Equipping men to teach, preach, and lead within the ministry.
-
Media Ministry: Initiating a radio program to disseminate their message.
Their churches uphold conservative standards, utilize the King James Bible exclusively, and focus on traditional worship services. Evangelism methods include personal and door-to-door soul-winning efforts.
Ethiopian Ministry Background:
Prior to their work in Washington, D.C., the Downs family served as missionaries in Ethiopia for twelve and a half years. This experience has uniquely positioned them to minister to the Ethiopian diaspora in the U.S., many of whom have backgrounds in Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity or Islam.
