Temple Baptist Church - 11-8-2020 Jude 24-25 Introduction: A. We are approaching Thanksgiving and my thoughts are turning to the things that I am thankful for. 1. The greatest thing that I am thankful for is eternal life and the hope of heaven with Christ forever. 2. Jude 24-25 are two of the greatest verses in the bible concerning God's eternal salvation and love. I want to look at these two verses for a few minutes this morning. B. To set the backdrop for these verses, we need to get a quick overview of this little epistle. In verses 1-3: 1. Jude is writing to the saved and exhorting them to not only continue in the faith but to also earnestly contend for the faith once delivered. 2. It has been committed into our hands upon whom the ends of the world is come and, since it will not be delivered again, must be kept pure! C. In verses 4-19, Jude describes the spiritual apostasy or “falling away” that would come in the last perilous times and its possible affect upon God's children. Spiritually, we live in the days of Noah, Lot, and Laodicea at the same time. Wickedness, both physical and spiritual, permeate our society. D. In verses 20-23, we find a spiritual contrast between the true believer and the apostate. The contrast is stark! We struggle with the flesh and strive to remain true to the One who gave himself for us. E. In verse 24, we find several things concerning who and what our Saviour is: 1. His Attributes. Exodus 34:6-8 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, (7) Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. (8) And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. 2. His Salvation. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 1a. The salvation that comes only through Christ! “Now unto him!” IT IS ALL ABOUT HIM! 2a. We live in the days of self-righteousness when most professing “Christians” mix personal merit with faith for salvation: good works, baptism, church membership, etc. 3a. You can never be truly saved until you come to the end of self and place your faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Any mixture of works or personal merit destroys the grace of God and, therefore, the salvation of God. 2. His Mercy. Lamentations 3:22-23 It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. (23) They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. 1a. The mercy of God in our sinfulness! “Able to keep you from falling!” In the Book of Lamentations, we see that it is of the mercies of God that we are consumed. We stumble but God keeps! 2a. Salvation is not the grace of God and then the perseverance of the saints. Salvation is the grace of God and the PRESERVATION of the saints! 3. His Presentation. Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; (26) That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, (27) That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 1a. The grace of God in our presentation! “And to present you faultless!” 2a. My friend, the word is “faultless,” not “forgiven!” Forgiven means that we are guilty but the penalty is removed. Faultless means completely free of offense. 3a. Heaven is all about the grace of God! As mercy is not getting what we deserve, grace is getting what we do not deserve. 4. His Glory. 1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 1a. The Ultimate Realization of Who He is. “Before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy!” 2a. I cannot describe what that moment will be like when we stand in His presence in our eternal state of purity and joy! 3a. I can only say, with the songwriter, “O that will be glory for me; glory for me; glory for me. When by His grace I shall look on His face; that will be glory; be glory for me!” Conclusion: What will we do in that moment when we stand before Him in all our perfection and realize what has taken place? I believe that the answer is actually found in both verses 24 and 25. Both of these verses comprise what is called a doxology. a. A doxology in the church is a liturgical expression of praise: praise that is both purposed and planned. We come to church with the purpose of singing to and talking about the One who saved us by His marvelous grace. b. But, in the bible, it is rather a spontaneous response to the Person and Goodness of our great God! 1. It is Unto Him: Our Doxology will be a recognition of what He has done! “Now unto Him … To the only wise God our Saviour” Psalms 100:3-4 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. (4) Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. (Now unto Him says it all! We will praise and glorify the Lamb of God forever for what He has done! I have never gotten over being saved and a child of God and eternity will be filled with His praises!) 2. It is All About Him: There will be a recognition of His infinite wisdom in dealing with us! “To the wise God our Saviour!” Ephesians 1:3-10 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: (4) According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: (5) Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, (6) To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. (7) In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; (8) Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; (9) Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: (10) That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: (These verses say it all! His wisdom in reconciling eternally sinful man with a thrice holy God with the purpose of receiving us unto Himself! Here, we find three couplets :) a. “Glory and Majesty” – The glory and majesty of His Person, works, and great salvation. O, what a Saviour! There was none before Him, there is none like Him, and there will be none after Him! Do you know Him? b. “Dominion and Power” – The kingdom of nature as well as the kingdom of heaven belong to Him! With his dominion goes the power: He made it and He sustains it! In the Model Prayer, our Lord taught us to pray: “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” (Matthew 6:13) c. “Now and Forever” – Our praise in heaven will be spontaneous because, in our life, we cannot imagine the thrill, the joy, and the thanksgiving that we will experience at that time. We will praise Him forever. Now, our praise must be purposed! As we are to “let our requests be known to God” with thanksgiving (that is to thank God in advance for how He answers our request), we are to praise the Lord for all He has done for us here and for what He has promised to do for us in eternity.
Temple Baptist Church - 10-25-2020Revelation 6:3-8 Introduction: A. The past 3 weeks, we have looked at the revelation and revealing of the Antichrist. The “god of this world” is a God hater from the beginning and has conditioned this present evil world for his revealing and acceptance. Galatians 1:4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: (This present evil world has columnated in our day. There has never been a day like ours and the Lord will soon deliver us from it.) 2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. (Peril has always been since Cain slew Abel, but never has there been a day like this one where danger surrounds us.) 2 Thessalonians 2:7-10 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. (8) And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: (9) Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, (10) And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. (God set a time when He will judge this world because of their rejection and rebellion.) John 15:18-19 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. (19) If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. (From the beginning, Satan has hated the Lord and has produced an atmosphere of hatred in the world for the things of God.) B. We that are saved are not safely in heaven (in chapters 4-5) with our Lord and loved ones who have gone on before. The 70th Week of Daniel (also called Jacob's Trouble or the Tribulation Period) is now in full swing. The reason for its fulness is the 2,000-year Age of the Church has allowed all the preparations for it to be in place for Antichrist's revealing. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. (2) For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. (3) For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. (4) But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. (5) Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. (6) Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. (7) For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. (8) But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. (9) For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, (10) Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. (11) Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. (We who are saved and Bible believers know well what time it is spiritually so be comforted in God's promises.) C. Our verses for tonight dispel the theory of many that the 7 year Tribulation Period will be broken up into 2 distinct parts: 3 ½ years of light tribulation and then 3 ½ years of great tribulation which are divided by the Abomination of Desolation. The division is a Biblical one, but this view of both light and great tribulation is flawed. D. Chapters 6-8 will dispel that theory. The tribulation will be great from start to finish. E. Jacob's Trouble, the Tribulation Period, is a story of God's love for the Nation of Israel. It is God's promise of restoration of the Nation of Israel. (God is not through with the Nation of Israel, His covenant people: Israel, My Glory—The Apple of God's Eye) Daniel 9:24-27 Seventy weeks (70x7=490 years) are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. (25) Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem (Cyrus the Persian in Ezra, chapter 1) unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks (49 years or 7 weeks [7x7]to build the Temple) , and threescore and two weeks (62x7=434 years): the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. (26) And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off (7x7=49 plus 62x7=434. 49+434=483 years or 69 weeks), but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. (27) And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week (7 years or Daniel's 70th week – The Week of Jacob's Trouble or the Tribulation Period) : and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. 1. Israel's Election as a Nation. Deuteronomy 29:12-13 That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day: (13) That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 2. Israel's Rejection as a Nation. John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Romans 10:1-4 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. (2) For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. (3) For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. (4) For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 3. Israel's Restoration as a Nation. Romans 11:25-29 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. (26) And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: (27) For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. (28) As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes. (29) For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. Zechariah 12:8-10 In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them. (9) And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. (10) And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. Zechariah 13:6 And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends. Revelation 6:3-8 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. (4) And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword. (5) And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. (6) And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. (7) And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. (8) And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth. F. God's love for Israel has never and never will diminish. Isaiah 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; (2) To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; (3) To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. Jeremiah 31:3-6 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. (4) Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry. (5) Thou shalt yet plant vines upon the mountains of Samaria: the planters shall plant, and shall eat them as common things. (6) For there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the mount Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the LORD our God. Jacob's Trouble is so much more than punishment for rejection and sinfulness, like church discipline, it is meant for reconciliation and restoration. Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Temple Baptist Church - 10-18-2020Revelation 6:1-2 Introduction: A. Over the past two weeks, we have seen: 1. The Preparation of Antichrist. a) The Conditioning of the Pulpit, the Pew, and the People in general. b) This world is ready for Antichrist's entrance. He will be their “saviour.” 2. The Prophecy of Antichrist. a) The Seed of the Serpent. b) Probably an Israelite, possibly of the Tribe of Dan. 3. The Person of Antichrist. a) He will be a Pretender – He comes on a white horse. The “good guys” wear the white hats and ride on a white horse. His acceptance relies on pretense. b) He will be a man of Peace – He will bring a pseudo peace that the world looks for. He comes with a bow but no arrows in hand. This world in general is desirous of peace, not war and look for someone who can bring it. c) He will be a man of Position – He will be given a crown. Not take a crown. d) He will be a man of Power – He will go forth conquering. e) He will be a man of Purpose – He will desire to conquer this present world. B. To understand the differences between the true Christ and the false “christ” is to understand the meaning of “antichrist.” C. “Anti” – the prefix “anti” means (1) Opposed to (2) Against. D. The Biblical Definition is one of revelation and stark contrast. 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; (4) Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 1. Antichrist will “oppose God.” 2. Antichrist will “exalt” himself above God. 3. Antichrist will attempt to “shew” himself as God. E. When Antichrist comes on the world scene, he will portray himself as “good”—“behold a white horse and he that sat on him”—but he will be spiritually and morally bankrupt—called “that Wicked” in 2 Thessalonians 2:8. F. Antichrist—a stark contrast to the true Christ. 1. Jesus Christ is from heaven - John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. Antichrist is from hell - 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; (Perdition-spiritual loss, eternal) Revelation 11:7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. 2. Jesus Christ came in His Father's name - John 5:43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. Antichrist will come in his own name - John 5:43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. It amazes me that Antichrist will not be disguised, Satan incarnate and will be accepted by the world. 3. Jesus Christ came in humility - Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Antichrist will exalt himself – 2 Thessalonians 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. A public individual who takes the “center stage.” 4. Jesus Christ was despised and rejected by men - Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Antichrist will be worshipped by men - Revelation 13:3-4 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. (4) And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? No matter what he does, how he acts, how wicked he is, he will be worshipped. Look at our politics today: baby killers, lovers of sodomy, anarchists, and no one seems to care. 5. Jesus Christ will be highly exalted by the Father - Philippians 2:9-10 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: (10) That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; Antichrist will cast into hell by the Father - Revelation 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. 6. Jesus Christ will do the will of the Father - John 6:38-39 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. (39) And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. Antichrist will do his own will - Daniel 11:36-37 And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. (37) Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. 7. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners - 1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Antichrist will come into the world to destroy sinners - Daniel 8:24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.8. Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd - John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. Antichrist will be the idol shepherd - Zechariah 11:17 Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened. 9. Jesus Christ is the True Vine - John 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Antichrist is the vine of the earth - Revelation 14:18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. 10. Jesus Christ is the Truth - John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Antichrist will be a liar - 2 Thessalonians 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. 11. Jesus Christ was a man of purity - 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Antichrist will be a man of sin - 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 12. Jesus Christ was the mystery of godliness - 1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. Antichrist will be the mystery of iniquity - 2 Thessalonians 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
Temple Baptist Church - 10-11-2020Revelation 6:1-2 Introduction: A. Last week, we looked at the conditioning of this present evil world before the introduction of Antichrist. Like anything else, to introduce something so drastic and dramatic with no preparation or conditioning would bring about rejection. There needed to be a conditioning or “getting used to the dark” by the unbeliever. 1. The Conditioning of the Pulpit of the local churches. 2. The Conditioning of the Pew of the local churches. 3. The Conditioning of the People without the local church. B. The First Seal is the introduction of the Person of Sin, Antichrist. 1. He will be a Pretender – He comes on a white horse. The “good guys” wear the white hats and ride on a white horse. His acceptance relies on pretense. 2. He will be a man of Peace – He will bring a pseudo peace that the world looks for. He comes with a bow but no arrows in hand. This world in general is desirous of peace, not war and look for someone who can bring it. 3. He will be a man of Position – He will be given a crown. Not take a crown. 4. He will be a man of Power – He will go forth conquering. 5. He will be a man of Purpose – He will desire to conquer this present world. C. Tonight, we will take a short look at the Prophecies of Antichrist's coming. 1. The Seed of the Serpent. Genesis 3:13-15 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. (14) And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: (15) And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. 2. The Judge of His People. Genesis 49:16-18 Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. (17) Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward. (18) I have waited for thy salvation, O LORD. 3. The Wicked Prince of Israel. Ezekiel 21:25-27 And thou, profane wicked prince of Israel (Jewish Birth), whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end, (26) Thus saith the Lord GOD; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same: exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high. (27) I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give 4. The Little Horn. Daniel 7:8 I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things. Daniel 8:9-14 And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land. (10) And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. (11) Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. (12) And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered. (13) Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? (14) And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. By Interpretation, Antiochus (The Illustrious One) Epiphanes (The Mad Man). Prophetically, Antichrist. Antiochus Epiphanes – a Syrian King came with peace but destroyed 80,000 men—women—children and sold 40,000 into slavery. He was a God hater and a Jew hater who sought to destroy. It is a matter of historical record as to the desire of Antiochus to destroy the Jewish nation and their religion. When Antiochus set up the image of Jupiter in the Holy Place in Jerusalem and desecrated the sanctuary and its holy vessels, he was unwittingly portraying a future defilement. Daniel referred to this incident as the “abomination that maketh desolate” (Dan. 11:31; 12:11). Jesus linked this event to Matthew 24:15 when he declared: “When ye therefore shall see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand).” It is said by some that he offered a sow on the altar of the Temple. 5. The King of Fierce Countenance. Daniel 8:20-25 The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media (Darius) and Persia (Cyrus). (21) And the rough goat is the king of Grecia (Alexander the Great): and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king. (22) Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power. (23) And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. (24) And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. (25) And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. 6. The Prince of the People. Daniel 9:24-27 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. (25) Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. (26) And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. (27) And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. Daniel 11:36-38 And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. (37) Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. (38) But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. 7. The Man of Sin … The Son of Perdition … That Wicked. 2 Thessalonians 2:3-10 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; (4) Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (5) Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? (6) And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. (7) For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
