What The Bible Says

Good Samaritan's Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice

This morning while sitting in the woods, waiting for the sun and whitetail, I spent half an hour in Thompson Manitoba, and then Kenya Africa. Christians can do that sort of thing when they talk with the Creator of the universe, their Father, their Friend. The American can affect who gets on the supreme court with a vote, but a praying Christian can affect the thoughts of Chief Justice Roberts while he is having his morning coffee. Liberal Justice Kegan has a life outside the courtroom and our Father has open access to every situation that affects her thinking. The power to pray categorically trumps the power to vote. “Men ought always to pray and not to faint” (Luke 18:1). “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men” (1Tim 2:1). The Bible goes on here to teach that men, i.e. males, are to be the leaders in that exhortation to pray. Husbands, and especially fathers, who do not daily lead their homes in supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, are delinquent in Christian responsibility. The husband who will not out-loud lead their wife and family in daily prayers is not competent to lead. The husband hearing the wife and family members talk to their Lord and Saviour has lead to the wall plaque which says, “The family that prays together stays together.” A generation has squandered the great power of the promise, “Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name....” Let's not let it go on, pull your family aside, lead in family altar and family prayer. There is a whole world of need that could be touched with the bended knee. The whitetail are here so I will close with the prayer, “Lord, teach us to pray.”
