“Whatsoever things are pure,” (i.e not mixed or adulterated with any other substance or material) brings to mind a myriad of Bible references. The pure gold that covered all the shittim wood of the ark of the covenant is its first mention. The wood represents the frail, flawed, flesh of humanity, ugly in character and in name. Modernists, change God's word to try and make that shittim wood some beautiful, aromatic, acacia wood, but the original Bible wording is correct. The pure gold, a precious metal that does not tarnish, represents the pure righteousness of a holy God. Pure gold righteousness of God covered all shittim wood of the tabernacle. Purity in the Old-Testament further applies to seed and sacrifice, incense and frankincense, water and the Word. Purity in the New-Testament begins with “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God”, and goes on to robes of pure white linen, of being pure through the Word, of charity out of a pure heart, and of having a pure conscious. “Unto the pure (righteous) all things are pure (righteous)” (Tit.1:15) The pure book closes with streets of pure gold, clear as crystal, and saints in pure white linen.

A Christian with no joy thinks on lies and liars, dishonesty, and injustices; on the impure, the ugly, and bad thing. Get rid of all stinking thinking this week, and think on whatsoever things are true, honest, and just, pure, lovely, and of good report. (Philip.4:8).

When David heard that King Saul was dead, he could have said a lot about Saul's last ten years. He did not. He eulogized him, thinking only on whatsoever things are good. “Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives” (2Sam.1:23, cf 17–27). Keep your focus right, and rejoice.
