The Apostle Paul's heart is on display in the first verse of Philippians 4. It makes his charge to the precious saints of Philippi weigh more as we take our first steps into a brand new year. “Stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved” (Phil.4:1b). We do not know what will hit us in a year, but God does and he knows, if we will stand fast in him, he will take care of whatever hits us. “Be of the same mind in the Lord” (vr.2). Stand together. In perilous times, when our ranks shrink and persecutions arise, when our own government officials promote immorality and defy godliness, Christians, genuine Bible believing ones, dare not be divided, there is a cause.“I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, …” (vr.3). Stand behind those preaching the genuine, glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, and “If any man preach any other gospel unto you than ye have received, let him be accursed” (Gal.1:8,9). True yokefellow know what secured their soul's salvation; it was not penance, baptisms, good works or religion, it is the blood of Christ. Stand fast, stand together, and stand behind the preaching of that gospel.

We aptly begin this year on the first day of the week, Sunday, when God tells us he made this whole time-space-matter continuum and said, “Let there be light” (Gen.1:1-5). On Monday He divided the space into heaven and a ball of water (vr.6-8); on Tuesday he made dry land appear and filled it with plants (vr.9-13); on Wednesday He made sun, moon and stars (vr.14-19); on Thursday He made fish and fowl (vr.20-23); and on Friday God made the living creatures and said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” … “male and female created he them” (vr.26-27, cf 24-31). On Saturday, the seventh day of this universe's existence, God rested from all his work which he had made, and man's first day in God's universe was a day of rest. We have been on that seven day cycle for almost 6,000 years now, don't let an evolutionist get you off track … stand fast, God's Word is true and accurate.
