DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL

DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL

This is the title of a poem written in the 16th century by St. John of the Cross. Dr. David Jeremiah mentions this poem in one of his devotions. That title illustrates those periods when we believers go through those occasional “ DARK NIGHTS “ in our journey of faith.

In reading scripture, we find that almost all the great men & women of biblical history went through those dark periods, but always emerged victorious. Moses, Elijah, Joshua ( the defeat at Ai ), John the Baptist, & of course David. In Psalm 30:5 “ ... weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning “. David knew what it was to weep in the night until his pillow was wet with his tears, but he also knew how the Lord could give him joy in the morning.

Have you ever experienced that “ DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL “ when sorrow & sadness seems to overwhelm you? When it seems your heart will break & you’ve wept until there are no more tears? Remember, we who have trusted the Lord Jesus, joy comes in the morning. One glorious & joyous Day; He is coming! And He will tenderly wipe away our tears. Until that Day, know that our Savior will walk us through every DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL!
