Msg #2006 Be My Valentine

What The Bible Says

Good Samaritan's Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it” (Eph 5:25). God uses the most intimate and unifying of human relationships, the marriage union, to portray the creature-Creator relationship that God designed humans for. Soul mates, friends for life, faithful till death, trusted and true, BFF can apply to both our walk with God and our walk with our spouse.

At the early dawning of spring in the northern hemisphere humans devised the query, “Will you be my Valentine?” Those successful in the quest know the depth of intimacy and height of unity that God is expecting from man. So too we know the fragile nature of such intimacy and the evil pain brought in with every ounce of selfishness.

An ever so tiny sliver under the skin festers with increasing pain and infection until the wound is opened and the foreign intrusion removed. Each touch on the sliver causes shooting pain, but its removal causes immediate relief, and begins long term healing. Use this Valentines Day to marvel that someone, all those years ago, said “Yes.” Mend and maintain the fragile nature of such a blessing. Candy don't hurt, flowers always help. And no matter your status this February 14th, remember you have an almighty Creator, our Lord Jesus Christ, who yet poses that question to every soul. First and foremost mend your relationship with him. “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Rev. 3:20).
