What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan's Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
The apostle Paul charges Titus that “a bishop must be blameless as the steward of God” (Tit.1:7a). Jesus had said "For the kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods." (Matt.25:14.). These servants were given resources, given responsibilities, and assigned a day of reckoning. They were stewards. We, as born-again believer, are stewards of God, and as such we are first and foremost stewards of the gospel. We are charged (responsible) to preach it to every creature, to be, as it were, his witnesses (Mrk.16:15,Jn.20:21, Act.1:8). If one is born-again they know how they got that way, and are responsible to share that. If one can read, they can know John 3:16 and then learn 17–18 that saves from condemnation. Now share it. Any born-again Christian has these resources, we have a responsibility, and there will be a day of reckoning where God can say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
We are also the stewards of God's word. It's been said the KJV Bible does not need a defender; it is like a lion in a cage, it just needs to be let out. As stewards of God's word we should read it, all of it. We should quote it, regularly. We should memorize it. We should meditate in it. We have been given a tremendous resource, we have a responsibility, and there will be a day of reckoning. Besides the gospel and the Word, there is more we are to be good stewards of. We are to be good stewards of our material, of our time, of our money, even of our children. To be a good steward, “be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” (Eph 6:10).
