CHANGING YOUR LIFE VERSE
Article created: 2020/08/07
One of my main heroes from the early days of my ministry was Dr. Lee Roberson. Dr. Roberson was truly a spiritual giant. He pastored the great Highland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee for over 40 years. He was one of the strongest Christian leaders & one of the most powerful preachers I’ve ever known.
His life verse in the beginning days of his ministry was 1 Peter 2:21 “ For even hereunto were ye called because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps. “. But something happened that caused him to change his life verse. I know his youngest daughter, June Ormesher could tell this story better than me, but I wanted to share it today.
Dr. Roberson was out of town at a meeting when word came that his daughter, Joy was seriously ill. On his way there, Dr Roberson was forced to take a detour due to some road construction. As he made his way slowly through the stop and detour, God distinctly spoke to Dr Roberson and gave him a new life verse...Romans 8:28.
Tragically, Joy passed away before he was able to get home. In the midst of that great sorrow, the Lord brought comfort to his heart from the new life verse He had just given him:
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose“. When he signed my Bible, that is the verse he wrote under his name. Rom. 8:28
Reminding myself & all of you dear believers today that incredibly powerful verse is still true. It doesn’t say all things are good, but it does say that our great, loving Heavenly Father will work all things for our good. Oh! What a promise to hold onto in these strange & difficult times. Thinking about Camp Joy that Dr. Roberson established & named in honor of his precious daughter where literally thousands were saved over the years. Rom. 8:28– Hide that verse in your heart today.
