Msg #2023 Perilous Times But Joy Unspeakable

What The Bible Says

Good Samaritan's Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice

In Matthew chapter thirteen the last three parables that Jesus uses to expose the “mysteries of the kingdom of heaven” express the absolute joy of knowing the way into the kingdom. They combine with the truth of 7:14, “Narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life and few there be that find it,” and shew it to be like a hid treasure, 13:44, and a pearl of great price, 13:45-46. If you found the treasure, if you are holding the pearl, you're saved from that final drag net illustrated in 13:47-50. If you never applied to receive God's eternal life, purchased by the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, “The angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth” (13:49b-50). The “just” have the pearl and the hid treasure was found in the halls of Romans 10:9-13.

In a day when a pandemic response ignores the First Amendment to close churches but opens streets to riotous protests, when anarchy rules the day striving to overthrow government, when black lives killed by police matter more than black lives killed by looters and drug addicts, when those days arrive in America, it may seem a little selfish, but it is good to set quietly for a little while and reflect on the treasure we are holding in our undeserved, unmerited, bought with a price, eternal life.

In their hatred for our president Governor Cuomo may pretend to read the Bible and Nancy Pelosi may even try to quote a verse for her left wing cause, but when you have the actual Word embedded in your soul it is “joy unspeakable and full of glory” (1Pet 1:8).
