Msg #2015b Is It the Day of the LORD?

What The Bible Says

Good Samaritan's Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice

For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low” (Isaiah 2:12). In the midst of a pandemic people are asking questions about the end of the world and a wise Christian needs to do two things, be Biblically knowledgeable, and be ready to give an answer for the hope that lieth in you. When the world is asking about the end of the world, the last days, or the return of Christ, understand that they do hold bits and pieces of the truth. “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness...” (Romans 1:18). When they pillow their head at night, man knows that there is a judgment coming, and that they are going to come up short. Christians need to maneuver queries about the end into a clear presentation of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In study of the day of the LORD we know that a pandemic is small potatoes. In Revelation 16 the wrath of God is poured out upon this world. It is unimaginable. Mankind's response is given in 1611, they “blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.” We heard NY Governor Cuomo start down this very path this week.

This day of the LORD, described and revealed in the Revelation of Jesus Christ, is proceeded by seven trumpets that announce and give a small sample of the vials of God's wrath. The seven trumpets are proceeded by seven seals that allow the stage to be set, allow Satan to step up controls, and allow mankind to sink deeper into his depravity and rebellion. Prior to such a preparation the church is removed in the rapture (Rev 4:1-3, 1Thes 4:13-18).

So what is this pandemic? Well, look at what it is doing to our own government. Satan is clearly flexing his muscles and exercising his plans for the future. All governments and nations will be on his side in the final days, and our own government's draconian measures to close churches and open liquor stores is self evident. Tickets, fines and jail are for violators of whatever it orders. Mandatory wearing of masks when in public, requiring “papers” to show you are driving to an “essential” job, taking license numbers of cars in church parking lots, pondering a mark on the forehead of those who have corona virus antibodies,... our government is flexing its muscles, and is enamored with its power to take away people's rights for what it deems “the higher good.” They like it so much, even carnal people are getting nervous, and asking, “Is this the end times?” Give them answer, but more so, give them the gospel.
