Msg #1852 A 2nd Advent Manner of Life

What The Bible Says

Good Samaritan's Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice

The Apostle Peter closes his ministry with his second epistle and he closes that epistle penning the question, “Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness?” (2Pet3:11). This endgame question is good consideration for ushering in a new year. Peter slams Charles Lyell's geological uniformitarianism (vr.4), exposes the willing ignorance of the evolutionist (vr.5), and corrects the world flood deniers (vr.6). The Godless “science” of our day denies God's supper-natural. They are sorely mistaken. Peter likewise derides those who deny Christ's second coming and God's endgame. He jumps right to Revelation 21, which the Apostle John had not even written down yet. Believers held these truths for two-thousand years now, and Peter's verse 8, about a thousand years being nothing at all to God, justifies that wait. It is sadly ironic that John and his Calvinist's use verse 8 to dismiss Christ's Millennial reign altogether! In verse 15-16 Peter even highlights the Apostle Paul's wisdom about the rapture (1Thes 4), the judgments to come (2Thes.2, 1Cor 3), and the dispensations of God (Eph 3); dispensations that Calvinists and Reformed theology denies. We can rest assured that our Saviour is coming back as the Judge, and in the end these elements shall melt with a fervent heat, i.e. it is all going to burn. The prose has been coined, “Only one life, twill soon be passed, only what's done for Christ will last.” The Apostle Peter's closing argument has begged the question, “Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God.” Happy New Year.
